MOAAP Executive Committee Statement

Recent events in our nation have again highlighted the inequalities that exist for minorities in our communities. We all know racism harms children, adults & families. Addressing racism and racial biases are important topics that we all must reflect upon.

The Missouri Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (MOAAP) recognizes that racism and violence create unsafe and unstable environments for children and must be addressed on all levels.

Racism is a social determinant of health often taking the shape of a system of inequity or a set of opportunities that creates an unfair disadvantage to certain individuals or communities.

MOAAP will continue to advocate for minority children in our state. We must do better and implement policies that ensure fairness and equality.
