(MISSOURI) – Dr. Maya Moody, President of the Missouri Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (MOAAP), issued the following statement regarding Governor Parson signing SB 45, modifying provisions relating to health care into law.

“On behalf of more than 1,100 members of the MOAAP, we want to congratulate the Missouri General Assembly and Governor Parson for signing into law SB 45 which extends postpartum care for low-income mothers. When new moms have access to care, their babies are more likely to receive regular well-child visits, early screening, and support services that set children and families on the path towards positive growth and success. We thank Governor Parson and the members of the Missouri Legislature for their support of children’s health in Missouri.”

Current law allows for pregnant and postpartum women to be eligible for pregnancy-related coverage throughout the pregnancy and then for 60 days following the end of the pregnancy. SB 45 extends coverage for the duration of a pregnancy and up to one year following the end of pregnancy.
